AIRCRAFT MISSIONS

Aviation serving humanitarian needs

Aircraft at the service of the humanitarian emergency

With its aircraft based in Africa, Aviation Sans Frontières transports humanitarian personnel, transports basic necessities and carries out emergency medical evacuations. It provides logistical support to hundreds of NGOs and international organizations (WFP, Handicap International, Action Contre la Faim, ALIMA, the French Red Cross, etc.).

An organization adapted to difficult conditions

The Aviation Sans Frontières fleet is composed of 2 Cessna Grand Caravans that can each carry 12 passengers or 1 ton of essential equipment in difficult conditions (hostile environment, difficult weather, bush terrain, etc.).

For each mission two pilots are mobilized. Our volunteer pilots, all professionals (on secondment for example), have the necessary qualifications and acquire, thanks to our missions, an incomparable experience (difficult weather conditions, restricted navigation aid ...).

Standards identical to those of airlines

Authorized carrier of the United Nations, the only association to hold a European CTA (air operator's certificate) obtained in 2012 and issued by the DGAC (Directorate General of Civil Aviation), Aviation Sans Frontières meets the same standards as all certified airlines.

Its aircraft are regularly maintained by a part 145 approved workshop (European standards) and overhauled every 100 flight hours. Their airworthiness is monitored by a body certified by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

Beneficiaries

Humanitarian transport missions benefit all the actors involved in the field, with the ultimate goal of local populations. In total, they have helped more than 120 beneficiary NGOs.

Partners

Our partners are Non-Governmental Organizations and International Organizations. These include: the World Food Programme (WFP), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Cordaid, Catholic Relief Services, Danish Refugee Council, Concern Worldwide, Action Against Hunger, MSF, etc.

"We make possible massive vaccination campaigns, preventive medicine actions against malaria and we transport all the essential equipment for the logistics of NGOs as well as mopeds, the only means of transport in the bush with the canoe. We also transport patients to hospitals and carry out medical evacuations."

Jean-Claude Cuisine-Etienne, Aviation Sans Frontières volunteer, chief pilot (2020) in charge of Avion Missions.

Mission Story

A medical evacuation in the Central African Republic: August 4, 2019 on Carnot, Central African Republic. A young boy of about 10 years old suffers from peritonitis and must undergo surgery by Médecins Sans Frontières. He is urgently repatriated by our plane, the Gran Caravan, to Bangui. The young boy was operated on and saved.

Le WIndracers Ultra
20/12/2024
Aviation Sans Frontières was an early adopter of drones as a cost-effective and impactful means of delivering for humanitarian actors and today drones are at the core of Aviation Sans Frontières’s forward strategy. Working with Windracers, Aviation Sans Frontières ushers in the future of humanitarian and development aviation through use of Windracers ULTRA that carries sizeable payloads per trip at a lower cost while taking human pilots out of harm’s way.”
